Prison Babies: 8th Day.

Prison Babies: In School.

Today the kids didnt come but we had discussions regarding our future plans. We came up with a solution that we will organize a picnic to a park with kids where we will take food and equipements. Also that soon, when the year will finish, we will organize a part at McDonalds for the kids.

Prison Babies Day 7

Prison Babies: In School.

Today we played with children in the primary school ground. It was pretty fun (especially for us) and as we had less kids this time, we could actually focus on all of them. Most of them were enjoying the rides over there and found it very exciting. I believe that that was a better playground then the one in which we have our prison babies activity all the time.

After the playing, we took the kids to watch a movie as it began to rain. The movie was really very boring but somehow they found amusement in it and started laughing. Though, we were probably enjoying the movie more than the kids.... It wasnt a bad a day overall... Having a mixture of acitivities in a day is probably more interesting than drawing/coloring all the time.

Prison Babies: 6th Day (Prison)

Prison Babies: Visit to the Prison

This is our second visit to the prison.  The weather wasnt very good today, dark clouds and drizzling in the beginning. Yet, we conquered all the interferances  and enjoyed our time with the kids.  We started of with drawing (as usual)  but then this time, we had clay which the kids really enjoyed playing with. We made animals out of play-dohs.

Even though it was drizzling a bit, we took the kids out in their playground to play. We were on the see-saw. It was fun really and one of the boys (i forgot the name :( ) was really enjoying it.  There were others as well who were busy in coloring :P but many  of the kids came outside to play with us. If we have acitivities which involve rides a lot, i am sure that the kids will enjoy more.  Wellwe will probably discuss about this more next time.

Prison Babies: 5th Day.

Prison Babies: In School.

Today the children from the Prison came to our school. The visit took place after 2 weeks, so nothing really was planned except that we would play with the children in the primary playground. Though, i found today much more interesting than the other days as we actually had some action instead of drawing.  We were playing with the little kids which was quite refreshing and even they enjoyed it.  There were the same faces which was good.  Today,  i was accompanying Kashidu and it was very enjoyable and i am sure that she was enjoying it as well. The problem is that i STILL dont remember all the names! Argh, i must remember their names soon :P

Next time for Prison Babies, we might go to the Prison, so i am looking forward to it, if we go.

UN Day Dance Performance.

UN Day Performance: Creativity.

Every year in UN Day, India always does a performance. This time, like last year we did one as well. But the different thing about this year was that we added fashion show into it and then a dance performance.

The song we used was 'Twist Remix' from Love Aaj Kal, an Indian movie. Me, Prashant and Ashish choreographed our dance this time as well. Good thing was that we were a lot more focussed than last year. We used an indian-western song which meant that we had more enhanced moves, especially western moves in our dance. The good thing is that this time, Prashant had used some of the new and cool steps :P which really made the audience interested in our performance more. There were some steps which i was physically in-capable of doing, but SOMEHOW i learnt them and did it.

There were 12 people in our dance, so naturally the stage was crowded. Yet, the whole perfomance went good. Many people came up to us and told us that it was good.

Prison Babies: Going to the Prison.

Prison Babies.

Today we went to the prison near Borella. The whole purpose for us going to the prison was to see that how the children were living over there and to go to a new environment and make the children happy by going to where they live. I didnt really expect the trip to be that much fun, infact, i enjoyed it a lot.

The first thing we saw when we entered in the children's teaching/playground section was that there were little girls performing sri lankan dance. We then went to the their classroom and gave them pages and colors so that they can draw. Unfortunately, the little kids had to do draw again this time. Later on, when we saw that the kids were getting bored, we took them out of the classroom to their playground and played with the kids. It was fun playing with them. We had small rides and i am sure that the kids were enjoying as i hardly saw anyone of them cry. We had some familiar faces which really helped us as the children were now used to us and opened up a lot in front of us. I now know only two names of the kids: Kashidu and Harshini. Due to the lack of knowing Singhalese, it was hard for us to understand what they were saying, but we had some sri lankan students with us like Upandha who told us what the kids wanted which REALLY helped us. I have a fealing that i was playing and acting properly in front of the kids and really wanted to continue playing with them. Overall it was a nice experience, the bad thing was that we werent allowed to take in cameras so i couldnt take photos :( though next time, they are coming in school and will take photos then.

Looking forward to the plannings for the next lesson. I being one of the leaders of my group have to think of stuff we can do with the kids and the students in my group have thought of lots of ideas, we will surely put them into action.

Gym: Fitness First.

Gym: Action Hours.

Personal Goal: To lose weight and become fit.

My one of the goals for this year and the following is to make myself fit. For that, i go to gym everyday. I am not really that healthy and i am sure that going to gym will really help me to gain a better control over my body.

I have been going to the gym for the past few months and i believe that i will continue with this routine. I go to gym every single day except for sunday for about 1.5 hours. The gym is very much near my house, about a minute walk. I have two different programmes which i change alternatively. My two programmes:

1) Cardio/Muscle work out.

2) Cardio/ Abs work out .

It is necessary that i do cardio for around 40 mins before starting my workouts. Then in muscle workouts, exercises related to chin-ups, push-ups, squats etc. During my abs workout, any exercise related to stomach is done.

From time to time, i chance my workouts to make it more harder for me as soon as i get used to one.  My goal is to go to the gym everyday except Sunday and i have been, but sometimes due to some problems, going everyday to the gym is not possible.

I really hope i achieve my goal. For that, i must be consistent and must be passionate as well.

Graphics Core.

Graphics Core: Creativity Hours.

www.graphicscore.co.uk

Personal Goal: To develop gfx designing and managing public website.

Website Goal: To get over 1000+ members.

Graphics Core is a website/forums which provides a platform for both experienced and novice graphics designers to present their work on  global scale.

At the moment, there are only 200 members on the website as it is pretty new. The websites aims to get more members, and to be officially declared as a GFX (Graphics) Website, there must be 1000.  The website focusses on mainly photoshoping skills and other software uses as well. We encourage people to use different softwares for different purposes and present the members with tutorials so that they can improve themselves.

With the help of my partner, i have been running this site. Right now, we have bought our own domain and are being powered by FreeForums.com but soon we shall change to IP Boards which are way better. Our site provides people with:

  • Graphics Help/Discussions
  • Galleries
  • SOTW/TOTM/LOTF
  • Market: Buy/Sell
  • Gift Sections
  • Team Recruitments
  • Team Battles
  • Resources: Stocks/Brushes/Renders/Pics
  • Lounge: General Talk etc..

It requires a lot of time to manage all this, especially when you are the Admin, you have to be active every single day. Not to mention, i must also keep sure that my site layout is appealing and also i must advertise my sites by getting affliates.  The site has been getting popularity mainly from lots of different forums and now ranks 15th in overall GFX Sites.

Working with other great designers encourages me to work harder on my art work. I have been tiring myself with making this website to what it is now and still it requires alot of work. Managing a website also gives me an insight on how to work with other web makers, negotiating, choosing softwares, working with HTML etc. I believe that if i continue to manage GC, i will surely improve a lot and make my website an official GFX Website.

Prison Babies Pictures.

Pictures Related to Prison Babies.

Prison Babies: Thursday CAS Activity.

Prison Babies: Service Hours.

Personal Goal: To successfully dedicate myself to a Thursday Cas Project.

There are many unfortunate children who actually live in prisons because their mothers are prisoners. They have no other choice but to spend their childhood in prison until they grow to their teens. Therefore, the little kids from prison come to meet us to our school campus and we play with them. There are times when we will go to the prisons to meet them as well. We are supposed to stay with them till 4pm. Young Jun, our CAS leader told me that i will be taking photographs during the project, though from time to time, i too play with the children. The children who are kept in a prison environment, find themselves very much free with us and really enjoy our company. Though, there are some that dearly miss their mothers and do not wish to be with us. There are also some children who do not come as their mothers do not allow them to. There will be rotations with the group of kids which will come to us. It has also been decided that soon we will donate some toys to the children as well so that they can play with them inside prison. Soon we will start with our first batch of kids which will come in next thursday.

My personal goal is really absurd and makes me look selfish as its all about me working on a afterschool CAS activity just for the sake of earning hours, but really its all about keeping me active with these projects. Last year, i was hardly taking CAS programmes seriously and never attended my CAS, though this year i am really serious about it. Prison babies seems like a very enteresting activity and playing with kids is quite enjoyable.

Yearbook : Electives

Yearbook: Creativity

Personal Goal: Improve my GFX skilles and learn about publishing.

Yearbook is an elective which is done on every other wednesday. In this elective, we work on the school yearbook which will printed out in the end of the school year. We design pages using Adobe Photoshop CS and then using Elements or another software, we resize it so it fits in with the page dimensions and work on its quality. People in yearbook are divided into catergories and are supposed to work on thos categories till the pages are finished. Once completed, helping other people out with their stuff is essential as well.

As already mentioned on my blog that i admin my own GFX site meaning that i have some experience in this. This is my 2nd year that i am doing Yearbook and i have realized that it has given me a lot of chance to show my creativity in school and work on different aspects of designing.  Not to mention, it has also  given me an exposure to 'how to publish yearbooks'. Thinking about formality within our work  is pretty important.

This year, i am incharge of School Events/Opening Pages and working on Dividers as well. Hoping to get the Dividers finished as soon as possible is probably the best planning for now. Due to the problems with the electives as they take place alternatively which isnt really good for us. meaning that we will have to find extra time and come to school on saturdays/sundays or after school.

SGA Pictures.

Pictures Related to SGA.

22nd August: BBQ and Mingler.

SGA: Student Government Assosiation.

SGA: Creativity Hours.

Personal Goal: To develop leadership and teamworking skills.

This year, i have been appointed as one of the SGA Representatives from Grade 11.

Being a part of SGA does not only require hard working, but dedecation and activeness as well. Every monday breaks or sometimes lunch, we have SGA meetings, talking about the up-coming events or discussing about the current issues within our school. We, the SGA reps have to be present at all SGA events, promoting the events to the students and taking part in the events in one way or another.

I believe that i would really want to enhance my leadership skills in SGA. Being a part of SGA means that i am responsible for conveying my class ideas to the school. I somewhat respresent the voice of Grade 11 so i can dicuss about their problems to our assosiation. In order to that properly, i must show some leadership qualities so that i can build a trust between the class and me. Not to mention, a leader always knows what his/her group needs and i should also realize without the class coming up to me about their problems and take some effort in resolving it.

Also, improvement in team working skills is very essential as SGA is built upon the whole concept of working together to make our campus student friendly. I must work properly with the other fellow reps to organize our SGA events properly. I really hope that I improve my team workings skills a lot.

I will be mentioning other SGA events i have worked on, in the blog.

Introduction.

Welcome,

During the two IB years: Grade 11 and Grade 12, being a part of CAS projects is an essential requirement and to record my future or on-going CAS projects, i have decided to create this blog.

Whats the relation between IB and CAS?

"The aim of all IB program is to develop internationally minded people who recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world"

In the IB learner profile, there is one profile which stands out the most, hence being related to the definition of CAS the most.

Balanced: They understand the importance of intellectual, physical and emotional balance to achieve personal well-being for themselves and others.

One of the main aims for CAS is to balance out the importance of studying and physical activities.

What is CAS?

Creativity: Arts, and other experiences that involve creative thinking.
Action: physical excertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle, complementing academic wrok elsewhere in the Diploma Program.

Service: an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. The rights, dignity and autonomy of all those involved and respected.

"CAS enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal developments through experiential learning.

CAS is a framework for experiental learning designed to involve students in new roles. The emphasis is on learning by doing real tasks that have consequences and then reflecting on these experiences over time." (OSC, CAS Handbook 2009-011)

Setting Goals:

I believe that setting goals to all my projects is a very good idea. Why? Because later on, i may get distracted from what i had once initially started with and later on referring back to my goal would help me a lot. I would really prioritize myself to write a goal for each and every single project i work on and ofcourse, try to achieve them.
